| The
land on which the Lincroft Inn stands
was part of a 350 acre tract granted
to a Mr. John Bennett by the King
of England some 300 years ago. That
portion of the present building where
the main bar is located was erected
in 1697. The native stone foundation
is still in excellent condition. In
1829, Hendrick Bennett, a direct descendent
of John Bennett, built the first of
many additions on the west side of
the original building. |
 |
| During
the 1800s, the Inn, then known as
the Leedsville Hotel, gained fame
for its fine well water which refreshed
many a thirsty traveler on the Lakewood-New
York stagecoach run. During the Civil
War, the town of Lincroft was called
Sandy New, later it became the village
of Leedsville and then it was changed
to Lincroft. The name of the hotel
was also changed at this time and
the Lincroft Inn was born. |
 |
| In
1914 the Inn was further enlarged
by the owner at that time Otto Lindberg
and 13 years later, in 1927, Dante
and Mary Daverio became the proprietors.
During the probibition years hot meals
cooked by Mary on an old coal stove
and “spirits” secretly
made by Dante in the cellar, helped
establish the fine reputation for
good food and refreshment the Inn
has long enjoyed. An ancient menu
for the “good old days”
establishes the cost of a steak sandwich
and two Manhattans as - would you
believe - just one dollar. |
 |
| The
Inn grew again in 1939 with the addition
of a flagstone front porch and a banquet
room. Twenty-four years later, under
the management of Bob Daverio, and
his wife Connie, the Grill Room was
enlarged and on Thanksgiving Day the
following year, 1964, the Jefferson
Room was opened to accommodate large
gatherings. At the same time a new
and larger kitchen, capable of doubling
the output of food was added. |
 |
| In
1977 Terry Daverio, present owner
and grandson of Mary and Dante, renovated
the entire kitchen from floor to ceiling. |
 |
| The
Inn was sold in 1989. The Daverio
family again took possession in 1992
and it must have been destiny for
Terry and his wife Martha. They began
major renovations and reopened on
August 31 of that year. They have
continued to maintain the reputation
of excellence in food and service
which has become the watchword of
the Lincroft Inn for over 80 years
while under the guidance of the Daverio
Family. |
 |
| In
1997 the Inn celebrated it’s
Tricentennial along with the completion
of the Colonial Shopping center “The
Lincroft Commons”. In 2001 renovations
began throughout the restauant. In
2008 the Lincroft Inn won the Wine
Spector award of Excellence once again
. The owners along with General Manager/Executive
Chef DeniseWolf’s passion has
made this award winning list of over
480 bottles possible. Denise also
has an expansive wine by the glass
program. |
 |
| Beginning
in the Summer of 2007 the Inn underwent
a total renovation and expansion and
in conjunction with Due Process Stable
and Trading Company added an Arts
and Antique division, please
see our catalogue. |
